Analog and Digital Audio Systems

Digital audio systems are no match for high-end, hi-fi analog audio systems and pre-war theater audio equipment that created unsurpassed levels of realism.

Analog devices excel also in creating visual imagery. While analog systems can produce nearly unlimited dynamics also in image creation, digital audio systems have their inherent limits due to the limited bit rate. Analog audio systems give listeners a sense of greater depth and the feeling of being at a live performance: First violins, second violins, violas, Cellos, contrabasses and all the other musical instruments sound three dimensionally. If time axis is included, the sound is 4-D.

In contrast, digital audio systems have only three channels (left, center and right.). Digital audio systems are mere easy-to-use devices for people who are yet to discover the joy of live music. It can be said that such systems are deflating music.
